The English Inquisition Begins…

Well another tournament, another failing from the English football team and as the players return to this country the inquisition will continue into why England have yet again failed to produce at a major footballing tournament.

I’ll admit that the hurt, anger and embarrassment which initially ensued my thoughts after the second round reversal against an energetic German outfit, have been replaced with a more philosophical, pragmatic and honest frame of mind.

Diego Forlan – The Underrated Maestro

Whilst taking in one of many World Cup group fixtures, it was a pleasure as a football purist to see a master class from a player who almost became a regular for my local club, Middlesbrough.

Diego Forlan (pictured above, celebrating his 2nd goal versus South Africa) was the man in question, who put in  a performance many will struggle to match between now and the end of the tournament.

Things I Have Noticed So Far…

The greatest football tournament, sorry the greatest sporting event alongside the Olympic Games, has begun in South Africa over the previous weekend, though you probably knew this and I thought I would share my thoughts on some of my observations.

Don’t worry, this will not contain a ‘easy-to-do’ have a go at Robert Green or an acknowledgement that it has been way too long for the tournament to finally be held in Africa.

As the Championship play-off concluded on Saturday gone and the seaside town of Blackpool begun to celebrate promotion to the Premier League, I realised I have several reasons to agree with them achieiving this success.

In fact I have SEVEN reasons, which back up my originally just wanting ‘The Tangerines’ to win the play-off final against Cardiff City, the original reason been simply the romance of such an achievement.
