My All-time Favourite Football XI

This isn’t about the best players that graced the game, it’s not about my best Boro team ever. That’s a whole other debate.

This is my favourite all time football 11 though I’ve had to include the current premiership mandate of 7 subs as the choice was hard.

So here goes…….

GK and Back Four; Stephen Pears; Rob Jones, Stuart Pearce, Tony Mowbray (captain), Paolo Maldini (vice-captain).

Midfield Diamond; Roy Keane, David Beckham, Paul Gascoigne, Juninho.

Front Two; Marco Van Basten, Gary Lineker.

Subs; Mark Crossley, Gianluca Festa, Andres Iniesta, Henrik Larsson, Franco Baresi, Ryan Giggs, Pep Guardiola.

I don’t expect you to agree and some of you will disagree with my choices.

These are my favourite players for many reasons; ability, attitude, memories given, influence and character.

So go on add your All-time Favourite Football XI below. It’ll be interesting to see what you all put.

      Hi Adam,

Many thanks for your grandads team, you can’t beat some of the classic choices though I was surprised to see no Bobby Charlton or Georgie Best types in his team. Look forward to your team.

      Cheers, Gaffers

  16. Martin Says:

My greatest Tottenham XI that I have ever witnessed.

I agree the defence will have quite a job on their hands with that midfield, but how do you leave that quality out…

  17. horsfallg Says:

All Time Favourite X1, mostly for the memories really…

    GK – Magnus Hedman

    LB – Paulo Maldini
    CB – Des Walker
    CB – Sinisa Mihajlovic
    RB – Cafu

    CM – Edgar Davids
    CM – Georgie Kinkladze
    LW – Peter Beagrie
    RW – David Thompson

    ST – John Hartson
    ST – Christian Vieri

Not sure how much pace we have up-front and getting Kinkladze to pass it might be a problem but Maldini and Beagrie would have right backs running scared.

    • gafferssportsblog Says:

      Thanks for your team Gavin,

Good to see you include your favourite Coventry players…

      Cheers, Gaffers

  18. Daniel Clancy Says:

    GK – Seaman

    RB – Cafu
    CB – Tony Adams
    CB – Sol Campbell
    LB – Paolo Maldini

    RW – Cristiano Ronaldo
    CM – Patrick Vieira
    CM – Zinedine Zidane
    LW – Ryan Giggs

    FW – Thierry Henry
    FW – Dennis Bergkamp

Bench: Fabregas, Roberto Carlos, Cantona, Keane, Desailly, Pires, Shilton

Haven’t seen much of Maradona and Pele if I’m totally honest, so left them out. Couldn’t think of a better combo than Bergy and Thierry up front – compliment eachother to perfection. Cristiano c. 2007-2008 is probably one of the greatest ever.

Yeah, I’m a sucker for Cesc but no one finds space quite like him in the modern game. Giggsy had to go in – Pires will rotate with him 😉

Maldini and those eyes has been there forever.

    • gafferssportsblog Says:
