My Sports Personality Of The Year

Spoty 2009

When the BBC announced the nominations for 2009 SPOTY (Sports Personality Of The Year) Award, I felt there was one stand out candidate who would easily be getting my vote.

Amongst the nominations were ten fantastic sports men and women compiling arguably the greatest list since the competition began in 1954 (Chris Chataway, first recipient of the award).

I think it has to be Mr Button or Mr Strauss. Both have acheived greatness in the last year. But if I had to put money on who they will pick I would say Jenson Button.

The Irish sports personallity if the year will be Thierry Henry, hands down!!

  2. gafferssportsblog Says:

It probably will go to Jenson but I would prefer Strauss to get the recognition he fully deserves.

Cheers for your comment and less of the Irish jokes, my ancestors are Irish.

    Cheers, Gaffers

i would go for Button, winner the championship in first year with fresh team is not permitted to everyone. However i have heard nice comments about strauss but i don’t follow cricket so wont be able to provide accurate judgement.
when it will be to decide the best premiership player . i will be on front line,
    Best ,

Thanks again for another good comment Mo,

Formula One is about the car more than the driver but Button has performed well.

I will get you to like cricket, eventually!!

    Cheers, Gaffers

I don’t blame Henry though Mick. It was very out of character. I do blame FIFA for the lack of technology & how its everyone’s fault except theirs!

  6. Chris Newton Says:

Bradley Wiggins should win it. Finishing 4th in the Tour was an incredible acheivement, personified by his ride up Mont Ventoux

      Interesting choice Chris,

Though he has had a great year and he has a great indie haircut!! Thought you’d have backed Strauss too?

      Cheers, Gaffers

  7. Chris Newton Says:

I always think it should be won by an individual. Hence they have a team of the year too. It is all well and good being part of a successful team like Button or Strauss, but to do it on your own in the toughest endurance event in the world is another thing all together
